"We've gone like ten miles. We probably past them." Chris said. "Call them." Chloe demanded. "Our cell phones don't work here, smarty." Chris said irritated. "Why did I even come on this stupid trip?" Chloe asked. "This is like the fiftieth time I've almost started crying."
"If you see this as just a trip, then you probably shouldn't have come. We all have life goals here. It's not just a trip. We're not going back home." He told her. Chloe ignored him. He didn't know what to think or beleive at that moment. It hurt him so much that Chloe had so much anger towards him since they left home. "I think we better pull over." He said.
Chloe pulled quickly onto the side of the road. She started crying.
"What the. . ." Lisa said. "They're right there!" She pointed as they drove by Chloe and Chris. "We can't turn around for another ten miles, which is right where you guys broke down." The driver told them. "How the hell did they get there?" Johnny asked. "I don't know, but I hope they stay there." Lisa said.
"Chlo." Chris said rubbing her back. He scooted over, so he was right next to her. "Shhh." He said trying to comfort her. "Remind me why we did this." Chloe sobbed. "Lisa wants to sing in a band." He reminded her. "Johnny wants the right person to see his art. . ." "And us?" She asked. She found his voice comforting. "You're an incredible dancer." He said. She smiled. "And. . .? He asked. "What?" "You're suppose to tell me I'm an incredible writer." He said. She nodded giggling. He put his arm around her and pulled her close to him.
Once again, he had a strong urge to kiss her. And once again, he resisted. He just held her in his arms, until she pulled away from him only minutes later. She whiped her eyes. "I'm better, thanks." She said. He pulled his arm back to his side. "I can't wait to get L.A." He said.
"Looks like we'll have to camp again. Chloe is going to kick my ass." Johnny said. "Poor Chloe." Lisa said. It took them a while to get back to the car with the gas. The nice men dropped them off and they walked up to Johnny's car.
Chloe was so excites to see them. She jumped out of the car and gave Lisa a hug. "I was really starting to worry." Chloe said. "We have to camp again." Johnny said. "Why?" Chris asked.
"We're not camping again." Chloe said. "I'll drive to the hotel." She didn't want to go through the same thing that went on the night before.
"Come here, Chloe." Johnny said gesturing for her to walk over to him. She nodded and rolled her eyes. They started walking along the side of the road slowly. He turned around when he thought they were good enough distance away, so that Chris and Lisa couldn't hear them. He stopped and turned her so she was facing him. "We have no choice but to camp." He told her. "I'll sleep in the god damn tent with him. I don't give a shit anymore. But, we're camping. Now it's up to you. I don't understand why you are suddenly so uncomfortable around him, but I'm trying to. I'm trying so hard to, but I can't. I just don't get it." "It's awkward to be stuck sleeping in a tiny one person tent with your ex." She said. "Okay, that I get, Chloe. But, why have you been acting like a bitch to him since then?" He asked. He studied her face as if he would be able to tell what she was thinking.
"I was okay, until he. . ." Chloe realized she may have overreacted a little. "He what? Did he try to sleep with you?" Johnny asked. She shook her head. "He touched my lips." "Oh my god." Johnny said. "God forbid." "He always did that when he was about to kiss me in bed at night." She said. "Cut the guy a break, Chloe." He said. "Now decided on the tent arrangements. It's all up to you. You're the only one being shitty about it." She watched Johnny walk back towards the car. She felt bad. She felt like she was ruining this whole thing for everyone. They were all so excited about driving to L.A. as a group of best friends and she was ruining it. "Hey, guys!" Chloe called out. She walked over to them. "No more shit." She said. "I promise. Chris and I will share a tent and we'll make it work." She walked over to Chris and gave him a hug. "We'll make it work." She said again.
They piled back into the car and drove as far as they could before they got too tired. They didn't get very far. It was so hot outside and they were exhausted from the driving and waiting. They stopped at another campground and set up their tents again. It cooled down a little by night, so they made a campfire and made smores. It brightened all of their moods and they were laughing and joking again.
